Liverpool are entering a new era with Arne Slot at the helm after the Dutchman replaced former boss Jurgen Klopp.

Klopp stood down as manager last season after almost nine years at Anfield, having won six major trophies during his tenure. Liverpool are now two weeks into their first pre-season under Slot, but they are yet to make any new signings.

However, that could change in the coming weeks as business ramps up ahead of the new season. With all that in mind, Mirror Football takes a look at some of the latest transfer stories to come out of Anfield.

Kubo move

According to Japanese outlet Sponichi, Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Takefusa Kubo from Real Sociedad.

The report states that the move is 'in the final stages', with the Reds set to pay around £55million for Kubo. The 23-year-old is said to be viewed as a long-term successor for Mohamed Salah, who is entering the final year of his contract.

The move would see Kubo link up with his international teammate Wataru Endo, who signed for Liverpool from Bundesliga side Stuttgart last summer.

Howe makes Gordon admission

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is desperate to keep Anthony Gordon at St James' Park, despite interest from Liverpool.

A transfer was explored earlier this summer as Newcastle scrambled to meet the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), with Howe admitting they "forced Newcastle to do things we didn't want to do". The sales of Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh mean they will not fall foul of PSR and Howe does not believe Gordon, a boyhood Liverpool fan, has been affected by the situation.

"He's such an important player for us, we didn't want to lose anybody," Howe said. "Why would we want to lose our best players? We fought really hard to make the right decisions. In those last few weeks it was very, very difficult. He's an integral part of what we’re doing. He needs a bit of a break. By the time he comes back he's ready to go."

Two defenders set to depart

Centre-backs Billy Koumetio and Rhys Williams are expected to leave Liverpool this summer, according to The Athletic.

23-year-old centre-back Williams played 19 times for the Reds in the 2020-21 season amid an injury crisis and the report states he is now set to be sold, with several clubs in Turkey and League One interested in his services.

Koumetio finished last season on loan at Championship side Blackburn and clubs in Scotland and France are said to be eyeing a move for the 21-year-old. Both players are currently training with the under-21s rather than the senior team.
