Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany was today asked about his plans for Joshua Kimmich, a player who has been linked with a potential move to Manchester City.

Kimmich only has one year left on his contract with the German giants and naturally, there has been a lot of speculation about his future.

City have been credited with an interest in the Germany international over the last year or so. Of course, Pep Guardiola has previously worked with him at the Allianz Arena.

Kimmich has long been one of the top players in the Bundesliga. But some have wondered if he could be ready to test himself in a new league.

It was recently claimed by journalist Christian Falk that Kimmich was disappointed with how he had been treated by Bayern, creating further speculation that he could be off.

Today, Vincent Kompany was asked about the player in a press conference.

Kimmich’s future is a very interesting one.

He is a player who would undoubtedly be wanted by many clubs, given his performances for Bayern over the years.

He is a really versatile player, who can play as a right-back or in midfield, and that would potentially make him a good signing for City.

City need cover and competition for Rodri, and also someone capable of playing alongside him, and Kimmich could be that player.

It remains to seen if the club will try and make a move, but when asked about Kimmich today by a reporter at a press conference, Kompany didn’t give too much away.

He said (via FC Bayern Munich official YouTube): “Sales is not my job. I’m here for the team. Every player in the team has a lot of talent. These are players who have been successful in the past. Now it’s about the future, I don’t want to talk about each player individually. That’s not my intention. I want to work with the guys.

“My feeling is that everyone is showing a lot of hunger. I won’t go into detail about every single player, otherwise we would be talking the whole evening.”

When pressed on how he sees Kimmich’s role, he added: “I understand the question, I really do. But we could go through all the names now.

“Harry Kane, Musiala – what do I think about Goretzka. We could go on like that all evening. But that’s not my intention. I played at this level and I know that nobody ever told me that I would be a guaranteed starter, even though I was captain. These players are used to meeting the highest standards.

“We need everyone. If you want to talk about names, we’re completely missing the point. That’s something for the media.”

Kompany keeping cards close to his chest

Kompany was never likely to say what the situation really is with Kimmich either way.

From the sounds of what he has said, he is planning to have the player available to him for the 2024/25 season.

But we will see if City do come for the 29-year-old, who genuinely could be a great addition amid the need for cover and competition for Rodri.

Bruno Guimaraes is another target for City, but the Brazilian is valued at £100 million by Newcastle with City not wanting to pay that much. Apparently, they value him more towards the £80 million mark.

If a move for Guimaraes can’t be facilitated, Kimmich is worth a look at.
