Liverpool’s wait for a new signing under Arne Slot could be set to drag on even longer after a Serie A club made their move for one Reds target.

With Slot now in place and Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards at the club, Liverpool fans were hoping for a busy summer of squad strengthening.

However, it’s not happened so far and it all seems pretty quiet on the Liverpool front really.

Despite links to midfielders such as Ederson at Atalanta and his midfield counterpart, Teun Koopmeiners, Liverpool appear to be nowhere near getting anything done.

Indeed, another midfielder the Reds have been linked with is Celtic’s star man, Matt O’Riley.

But once again, it looks like Liverpool could miss out as a bid from Atalanta of all teams appears to have come to the table.

Atalanta make £14m bid for Liverpool-linked Matt O’Riley

According to a report from The Times, interest from Atalanta in O’Riley has led to them making a bid for the Celtic star.

O’Riley was in brilliant form for the Bhoys all last season and has quickly established himself as one of the best players in Scotland.

However, that form now has other clubs sniffing around him and it looks like Atalanta are the first to put some money on the table.

Whether or not the Scottish side accept the bid for O’Riley, remains to be seen.

Of course, for Liverpool fans, the optics on this don’t look good once again.

If the ‘phenomenal‘ O’Riley is to move to Atalanta then it once again looks like the board and FSG haven’t moved quickly enough to tie down a target.

Yes, the Reds will have plenty of other players on their radar and O’Riley might well have been someone they simply cast an eye over.

But with the season just a month away, Liverpool fans will be hoping business starts to pick up quickly.
