A chairman has shared what he’s heard from an agent and in the US about the battle between West Ham and Spurs for Ivan Toney.

There has been an intriguing update from a man very much in the know when it comes to Ivan Toney.

West Ham and fierce rivals Tottenham Hotspur are the last clubs standing in the race for Toney this summer.

That’s after Arsenal left the Hammers and Spurs in a two-horse race by withdrawing their interest following a meeting with Toney that went badly.

Hammers News has been told West Ham do have an interest in Toney this summer.

Tottenham are trying to offload Brazilian flop Richarlison as they look for a new striker themselves.

Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou has made it perfectly clear he wants a new forward brought in.

State of play in West Ham vs Spurs battle for Toney

It was claimed recently that Spurs had trumped West Ham by making an official bid for Toney. But that was rejected.

MORE WEST HAM STORIES

Then Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg claimed Toney could be leading the line for West Ham next season.

The Sun has stated it is now a two-horse race to sign the 28-year-old between West Ham and Tottenham.

Sullivan lists his decision not to act on the advice of Barry Fry to sign Toney from Peterborough for just £10m among the worst of all his time in football.

And Posh chief Darragh MacAnthony claimed David Sullivan is working on a deal to sign Toney for a knockdown price.

Now the Peterborough chairman has shared what he’s heard from an agent and in the US about the battle between West Ham and Spurs for Toney.

Chairman on what he’s heard from agent and in US about Toney

MacAnthony says he speaks to Toney’s agent regularly as he has two players at Peterborough.

And he has refuted claims that Toney wants massive wages from West Ham or Spurs if he makes a move.

But there’s bad news for the Hammers too it seems.

Because MacAnthony says he’s hearing Tottenham will be the ones to win the race.

“The outside tip, and don’t forget where I live because I live in America, is Tottenham…” MacAnthony said on talkSPORT after suggesting Sullivan is trying to do a deal for Toney.

“Well that’s nonsense (that Toney is asking West Ham and Spurs for huge wages) and I know that for a fact.

“I know his agent very well. I speak to his agent every week because he’s got two of our players.”

Bees boss Frank about Toney future

It comes after Brentford boss Thomas Frank once again admitted Toney will be sold this summer as he enters the last year of his deal.

He told Sky Sports News: “You never know! He’s a Brentford player and I would love him to stay. It would give me a very positive challenge.

“I haven’t met a coach who doesn’t want as many good players as possible. Right now, he’s a Brentford player.

“He’s enjoying his time off and I’m happy, if he’s here with us I’ll be more than happy. A 20-goal goalscorer, there’s two things in that. It’s very good to have that in your team, and it makes him expensive!

“We’ve said before, I want to keep all my players, besides maybe five or six clubs in the world we’re a selling club – and if there’s the right bid which comes in, fine.”
