Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg looks set to finalise his departure from the club after touching down in Marseille on Sunday night.

Saturday was another positive day for Ange Postecoglou as his Tottenham Hotspur side beat Queens Park Rangers 2-0 at Loftus Road.

Pre-season preparations continue and Tottenham will be delighted with the win as Yves Bissouma – who has been challenged by Postecoglou – and Dane Scarlett found the net.

Tottenham fans are still hoping for news on potential signings right now but it’s a departure which looks close to completion.

HITC reported on Sunday that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was ready to leave Tottenham for a switch to Marseille.

Roberto De Zerbi has asked for Hojbjerg to be signed and the Dane had already agreed personal terms ahead of a move to France.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg lands in Marseille

The deal was originally thought to be worth an initial £12million, but appears to have been re-negotiated.

The Athletic claim that the deal will now be a loan with obligation to buy as Hojbjerg nears an exit.

Late on Sunday night, footage emerged of Hojbjerg arriving in Marseille and being given quite the welcome.

Marseille fans posted footage on social media as they welcomed Hojbjerg with flares whilst chanting his name.

Hojbjerg was seen alongside former Premier League striker Fabrizio Ravanelli, who is now working as an advisor alongside De Zerbi at Marseille.

Hojbjerg, with his family alongside him, applauded the Marseille fans as they waited for him late into the night.

The Dane is now in France and will surely undergo a medical and finalise his move on Monday.

Hojbjerg joined Tottenham from Southampton in 2020 and racked up nearly 200 appearances for Spurs.

Now seemingly falling out of favour at Tottenham – despite being hailed as ‘excellent’ by Postecoglou – Hojbjerg is now ready to try his luck in Ligue 1.

Tottenham must find another midfielder

Tottenham will allow Hojbjerg to move on but another defensive midfielder has to be a priority.

New arrival Lucas Bergvall can operate as a number six but that may shackle his attacking qualities at this stage in his career.

Archie Gray is another addition to Tottenham’s midfield ranks but spent last season as a right back and has even been playing as a centre back this summer.

Neither player really fits as a natural holding player next season and Tottenham must look for another option in that role with Hojbjerg moving on.

Wolverhampton Wanderers won’t entertain selling Joao Gomes this summer despite Tottenham’s interest and Hojbjerg’s exit should accelerate the need for alternative targets.

Bissouma is likely to start the season in midfield but certainly needs competition, so midfield remains an area of interest for Spurs this summer.
