West Ham United are in pole position to sign Niclas Fullkrug with AC Milan dropping contact with Borussia Dortmund, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

In Di Marzio’s report , he claims Milan have not followed up any enquiry to Dortmund since earlier this month.

This clears the path for the Hammers to swoop in for Fullkrug, who is set to leave BVB after just once season, with the final details being arranged .

Di Marzio said: “Milan continues to work carefully on the market. As for the attack, Füllkrug will go to West Ham.

“The Rossoneri club, after an initial survey and contacts at the beginning of July, stopped. The German player, therefore, will go to the Premier League.”

West Ham set to sign Fullkrug

West Ham are set to capture what can fairly be described as an enigma in Premier League terms with Fullkrug.

A “late bloomer” as judged in some quarters having debuted for Germany at 29, the towering striker provides a different dynamic to Julen Lopetegui but is unproven in English football, as explained here by Frank McAvennie .

However, Fullkrug’s goalscoring record cannot be sniffed at, with a 0.5 goals per game average during his time with Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga, earning him his move to Dortmund.

With 12 league goals last season in the black and yellow jersey, Fullkrug has also netted 13 times in 21 German caps.

The late upward curve in the career of the big forward could result in him continuing to produce well into his twilight years, something which could earn him a longer contract at the London Stadium than would often be put in front of a 31-year-old whose professional debut came back in 2011.

In other West Ham news, the deal for Crysencio Summerville could turn out to be a “bargain” for the Irons.
