Manchester City's pre-season friendly vs Barcelona was delayed as a weather warning and thunderstorm sent fans sheltering under stands in Orlando.

City were under an hour from the scheduled kick-off vs Barcelona at the Camping World Stadium, when a lightning storm in the area sent a huge downpour over the stadium.

Their first friendly of the summer had been put in doubt in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, when a weather warning saw fans evacuate the Kenan Stadium completely, although there was no change in weather overhead and the game kicked off shortly after the advertised time.

In Orlando, however, the timing of the storm ensured the game was delayed with thunder and lightning overhead. Fans sheltered under the concrete stands as they watched the rain fall, with the big screens asking supporters to take cover.

The message read: "Due to inclement weather, the event has been temporarily delayed. Please seek shelter under covered concourse areas until further notice."

With lightning strikes within eight miles, kick-off was automatically delayed by 30 minutes, and that clock was reset every time another flash of lightning was detected, resulting in a lengthy delay to the game.

Pep Guardiola had made two changes for his team, with Josko Gvardiol and Mateo Kovacic coming in, replacing the two young centre-backs who played AC Milan. Gvardiol went into defence, with Kovacic in midfield and Kalvin Phillips moving back to centre-back.
