Chelsea have confirmed the signing of young goalkeeper Filip Jörgensen from Villarreal this afternoon, with the 22-year-old already joining up with the rest of the team in Atlanta, ahead of tomorrow night’s friendly against Club América.

The official announcement confirms that Jörgensen has signed a seven-year contract (through 2031), contrary to previous reports that claimed a six-year deal plus a club-option. The transfer fee is in the region of €20-25m, about half the release clause.

Jörgensen burst onto the scene last season and led La Liga in total saves (had plenty of practice behind one of the worst defenses in the league)! Hopefully we’ll keep him a bit less busy, once he usurps Robert Sánchez as our starter, as expected.
