Everton were left still searching for their first win from this summer’s pre-season friendlies as they were thrashed 3-0 at Championship side Coventry City. Although Sean Dyche is still awaiting the return of several key figures in his squad plus the introduction of his latest two acquisitions, Jesper Lindstrom and Jake O’Brien, the Blues boss still named a highly-experienced Premier League line-up in the West Midlands and will be disappointed by the emphatic outcome of the match.

Mark Robins’ side took the lead through former Everton striker Ellis Simms in the first half before wrapping up their victory after the break with further efforts from Ephron Mason-Clark and Victor Torp.

Next up for the Blues is a trip to Coventry's Championship rivals Preston North End on Saturday before they welcome Roma to Goodison Park on August 10.

Claimed a Jamie Allen shot that was straight at him and probably couldn’t have done much about the first goal but looked suspect when dealing with Ephron Mason-Clark's header for the second.

Seamus Coleman 4

A tough night for the captain who appeared to be targeted by Coventry, went down several times with knocks, dallied for the opener and couldn’t get close enough to Mason-Clark when he doubled the hosts’ lead.

Ashley Young 5

Everton’s oldest-ever outfield player fared marginally better than fellow veteran Coleman in the other full-back berth but he still found himself on the back foot too often and should have been cutting out Sakamoto’s cross for the second goal.

Mason Holgate 4

There will be question marks over his ponderous reaction for the first goal and playing centre-back again, he struggled against the physicality of former team-mate Ellis Simms.

Michael Keane 6

May not be a regular anymore but he bailed Holgate out on several occasions with a dominant aerial display.

Jack Harrison 6

Started brightly with some purposeful running and creative passing but despite a hard-working display, he faded as Everton struggled.

James Garner 6

Typically industrious in the engine room, he kept plugging away, but this performance was more perspiration than inspiration.

Tim Iroegbunam 7

Everton’s most impressive performer on a poor night, he carried the ball forward with purpose and looks to provide the midfield with a fresh dynamic.

Dwight McNeil 5

Booked for taking a swipe at Milan van Ewijk, the challenge summed up a frustrating evening for him as he tried to provide a creative outlet but was repeatedly thwarted.

Iliman Ndiaye 5

Played as Everton’s most attack-minded midfielder in the first half, supporting his striker but other than fire a shot way over the bar from a Calvert-Lewin cross, there was minimal output from him going forward and arguably his biggest contribution before being hooked was some cool defending when in a tight position at right-back.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin 4

Continues to look rusty as he spurned a couple of big opportunities to score in the first half, the first from a Garner pass and second when capitalising on a Coventry mistake but shot too close to Oliver Dovin on both occasions, lacking conviction.

SUBS

Abdoulaye Doucoure (on 46 for Ndiaye) 5

Brought on at the start of the second half but still appears to be shaking off the rust as he struggled to make an impact going forward.

Beto (on 59 for Calvert-Lewin) 6

Offered a different kind of threat to the lethargic Calvert-Lewin but while there was the usual mix of hard-running and chaos plus a shot fired over the bar, he was unable to turn the tide.

Roman Dixon (on 76 for Coleman) 6

The youngster got a late run-out after the third goal when Dyche decided his skipper had suffered enough.

Elijah Campbell (on 76 for Young) 6

Similar brief for the fellow teenager in the other full-back berth.
