Oscar Bobb was taken aback after he was compared to a former Manchester City attacker.

During City’s pre-season tour of the US, Bobb has become the talk of the town.

David James claimed that the Norwegian midfielder could start for Manchester City against Chelsea in their opening game of the 2024/2025 Premier League season; such have been the quality of his performances against Celtic and AC Milan.

Pep Guardiola praised the 21-year-old’s showing against Milan as “electric” as well.

Rico Lewis also praised Bobb for his “fearlessness” and sheer quality with the ball at his feet amongst other aspects after City succumbed to a 3-2 defeat against the Italian giants.

Oscar Bobb gives his honest verdict on Riyad Mahrez comparison

David James also stated that the Manchester City attacker is the “next Phil Foden” — emphasising how much he has impressed during his time as a first-team player at the club.

Often, young players are compared to world-class stalwarts due to their playing styles and potential.

After Manchester City lost to AC Milan, Bobb was compared to Riyad Mahrez, which followed him being surprised by the comparison.

As quoted by Manchester Evening News journalist Joe Bray, the youngster said: “Woah, that’s a big compliment. I’ll take it of course. I’ve been watching all the City games for the last 10 year, so if you say so, geez, then I’ll take it.

Oscar Bobb comes across very humble in his response to Riyad Mahrez parallel

Any young attacker would be flattered to be likened to the former Leicester City winger.

Bobb seemingly was as well but judging by his reaction, he understands how outstanding a player Mahrez was.

The Al-Ahli wideman is one of the best players to have ever graced the Premier League.

As far as wide players go, a case can be made that he is City’s greatest and one of the very best in the English top-flight; alongside names like Cristiano Ronaldo, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane to name a few.

Bobb’s surprised reaction also suggests that he has plenty to achieve before being mentioned in the same breath as Mahrez.

If the Premier League winner can develop even into half the player the Algerian icon was, he is destined to have an excellent career.
