West Ham United may be able to secure Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s signature ahead of the transfer deadline for just £20million, according to Joe Thomas.

Speaking on the Royal Blue YouTube channel (29 July, 58:30) the Liverpool Echo journalist admitted the Hammers do remain interested in signing the Everton striker who is in the final year of his contract.

Although the Toffees want £40million for Calvert-Lewin , they would find a £20million offer “difficult to turn down” given the impact it could have financially and from a PSR perspective.

Speaking on the Royal Blue YouTube channel, Thomas said: “I think Everton are just a little bit stuck. They’ve already gone through the Calvert-Lewin situation feels like a bit of an unavoidable situation.

His situation depends on whether someone is willing to come in for him and what they’re willing to offer for him I think. The longer he goes on without signing a deal, the less tenable his position may become.

“If someone like West Ham who are interested were to come in and put £20million on the table, especially bearing in mind how much they picked him up for and how long ago that was.

“The value of that deal to the club from a PSR perspective and a wider financial perspective would be very difficult to turn down.”

Will Dominic Calvert-Lewin exit Everton amid West Ham United transfer rumours?

Julen Lopetegui is in the market for a new number nine this summer and it does seem that Calvert-Lewin is just one of many players linked with a potential move to the London Stadium.

At £40million, most Hammers supporters would be in agreement that this would be a deal not worth pursuing because of the striker’s poor injury record and inconsistency in front of goal in the past few years.

However, for half that price, this could be a worthwhile investment for the Irons. Even if Calvert-Lewin did miss games through injury and go through barren runs in front of goal, he would make an impact in and out of possession to justify that price tag.

Maybe if Lopetegui’s side cannot get their hands on their priority targets between now and the end of the summer, they may float a lower offer to try and tempt Everton into parting ways with their number nine.
