Sheffield Wednesday open their Championship campaign against Plymouth Argyle on August 11th.
Sheffield Wednesday have two weeks before they begin their 2024/25 Championship season.
It’s their first full season under Danny Rohl who’s going into his first full season in management.
The German boss has brought in nine new players this summer and has overseen four pre-season friendlies, with the last being a 2-2 draw vs Werder Bremen.
Sheffield Wednesday face Leganes in their next and final pre-season friendly before the game vs Plymouth, and here we discuss what Rohl’s current strongest XI may be…

Sheffield Wednesday’s strongest XI under Danny Rohl right now
Rohl has a toss up between 4-2-3-1 and a 5-2-2-1 formation; the former he played with most of last season and in this pre-season so far, and the latter as the one that got Sheffield Wednesday over the line last season.
A 4-2-3-1 formation seems more likely as things stand, and there’s no doubting that James Beadle starts in goal.

There’s also no doubting that, when fit, Di’Shon Bernard is the Owls’ best centre-back, though his best partner remains to be seen.
Michael Ihiekwe put in some good performances last season and is probably the best bet to start alongside Bernard in a full-strength XI, though centre-back remains a light position.
At full-back, there’s a bit more uncertainty, especially on the right with Yan Valery arriving to give Pol Valentin some fresh competition; if Valery can live up to the hype, he’ll perhaps prove better than Valentin who still has some room for improvement.
On the left, Marvin Johnson remain the strongest option; we’ve not seen enough of Max Lowe in the last few years to make a case.
In the two holding midfield positions, Barry Bannan surely takes one, though last season’s partner Will Vaulks leaves a bit of a void in the middle, and one that’ll either be filled by Nathaniel Chalobah or Svante Ingelsson.
Given his experience of English football, Chalobah is perhaps the strongest option as things stand.
In the three attacking midfield positions, Rohl has a lot more options than he did at the start of the summer, with Olaf Kobacki and Jamal Lowe able to operate in these positions, as well as the likes of Josh Windass, Anthony Musaba, and Djeidi Gassama; Musaba and Gassama both impressed vs Werder Bremen.

It looks as though these five will share the starting roles throughout the next season which will allow players to rest, and maintain the high press.
Given his experience of the second tier, Lowe seems like a stronger option than the likes of Kobacki, and Windass too, though he’s perhaps the best option to start as the lone striker.
Musaba showed promise last season. His game improved, along with Gassama’s, though Musaba certainly seems like the more complete player for Sheffield Wednesday right now.
Up top, Bailey Cadamarteri is looking like he could put in a good 2024/25 campaign after showing promise in pre-season.
There’s still Michael Smith too after the big striker came into contention towards the end of last season, and Charlie McNeill, though he looks set to play a back up role next season as he gets to grips with the Championship and with first-team football.
Mallik Wilks appears to be out of favour and possibly on the move this summer.
Here’s what Rohl may view as his strongest Sheffield Wednesday XI when all are fit…
