Manchester City are no strangers when it comes to seeing their players being linked with moves away from the club.

In addition to seeing the likes of Sergio Gomez, Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Liam Delap leave the club on permanent deals, numerous other players at the Etihad Stadium have been linked with the exit door.

With Pep Guardiola and several members of his squad in the middle of their preseason tour of America, a pundit has shared his thoughts on whether or not the Citizens should consider cashing in on one big-name player who has been mentioned with a move away from the club in recent weeks.

Steve Nicol says Man City shouldn’t sell Kevin De Bruyne this summer

When asked in a recent video shared on the ESPN FC YouTube channel if he thinks City should consider accepting an offer for Kevin De Bruyne this summer amid recent links to Saudi Arabia, Steve Nicol had this to say in response.

He said: “I still wouldn’t take it. I understand that everyone has their price, but there are certain players that you need.

“For me, you don’t let Kevin De Bruyne go. For what Kevin De Bruyne can give me when he’s fit, it’s worth not getting the £20m for this season in my humble opinion.

“People like Kevin De Bruyne, the one thing that I would suggest you can never even think about is is he just going to take it easy for a year?

“You do not get to the level of performance that this guy has, he just doesn’t know any other thing to do than give it 100%.

“So, people in his situation, the whole ‘how’s he going to be mentally?’ It’s got nothing to do with that in my opinion. It’s only one question, is he going to be fit?”

Keeping hold of De Bruyne is a must for City

Even though he only appeared in 18 Premier League matches last season as a result of having to recover from hamstring surgery in the first half of the campaign, the Belgian still scored four goals and supplied 10 assists for City.

Having been praised by Stephen Warnock for his “phenomenal” intelligence (via BBC Sport), it’s easy to see what De Bruyne offers his team and why Nicol thinks City should not sell the midfielder.

Even though the 33-year-old is about to enter the final year of his contract at the club, Guardiola recently assured City supporters that De Bruyne will not be leaving the club this summer.

If this does end up being the case and the midfielder can stay fit throughout the entirety of the upcoming campaign, we feel he’ll give the Blues a great chance of winning even more silverware.
