With Rodri injured, Manchester City have been linked with a January replacement in recent weeks.

Martin Zubimendi has distanced himself from rumours of a possible January transfer to Manchester City and insisted he still has ‘things to give’ to his boyhood club Real Sociedad.

The highly rated midfielder turned down the chance to sign for Liverpool over the summer, despite a transfer appearing close. Reports suggested the Reds were willing to match his £51m buyout clause, before Sociedad managed to convince Zubimendi to remain at the Basque club at the 11th hour.

A January switch to City would certainly rub salt in the wounds for Liverpool fans, and the Premier League champions have been linked with a mid-season transfer following Rodri’s season-ending injury last month.

However, speaking ahead of Spain’s Nations League fixture against Denmark, Zubimendi revealed he has no plans to leave Sociedad any time soon.

“There are always rumours but until now I've always thought that the best solution for me is staying at Real Sociedad," he said. "I've still a lot of things to give to this club, I still want to grow and develop here.”
