Jack Clarke left Sunderland for Ipswich Town during the summer. But after a slow start, could he be regretting the move?
Sunderland were largely saved by Jack Clarke and his goals last season, with 15 of them perhaps even keeping the Black Cats in the Championship.
It was widely expected that he’d leave the club during the summer transfer window just gone.
Clarke had plenty of interest from the Premier League, but it was Ipswich Town who eventually sealed the 23-year-old’s signature.
Eventually, it was revealed that Sunderland only received an initial £13.5million for Clarke, owing to a 25% sell-on fee owed to Clarke’s former club Spurs.
Since moving to Portman Road, Clarke has featured five times in the Premier League and has claimed one assist, with Kieran McKenna’s side in 17th place of the table and as yet winless.
Sunderland under Regis Le Bris meanwhile are sitting in 1st place of the Championship table, having unearthed a new wing star in Romaine Mundle.

Will Jack Clarke be regretting his move to Ipswich Town from Sunderland
Speaking on Total Sport, the topic of whether or not Clarke will be regretting his move to Ipswich Town came up.

Former Sunderland man Kieron Brady gave an interesting answer, saying: “Absolutely not. A lot of players will spend a considerable part of their footballing career, looking for what you might regard as ‘that contract’.
“I’ve got no doubt that Ipswich given they’re now in the Premier League, were able to offer him a contract that Sunderland were either unable to, or unwilling to.
“When we get to the end of the season, if you find that both Sunderland and Ipswich have exchanged positions within their respective leagues, and Jack Clarke’s contract stipulates that he’s going to have to take a reduction, because Ipswich have went back to the Championship, then he might have some considerations.
“But if he himself goes on and has a personally good season, then it might be that a Premier League club’s willing to take a chance on him again.”

Sunderland are proving to be better without Jack Clarke
Sunderland fans will always be fond of Clarke. He played a huge role in their re-establishment in the Championship, and never kicked up a fuss or forced a move away.
He deserved his chance in the Premier League, though it’s certainly been a tough start for him.
Ipswich is a difficult club to move to given their rapid rise up the pyramid and their lack of resources to compete with some of the Premier League’s teams.
Whether Clarke had much say in where he moved to remains to be seen. But like Brady says; Clarke’s no doubt on a big contract, Ipswich are currently above the relegation zone, and Clarke could well be on the move again next summer if he impresses.
It’s almost a win-win for him. And for Sunderland, Clarke leaving has allowed Mundle to shine, making the Black Cats much less one-dimensional in the process.
