Rumours have emerged this week that Madrid have made contact with Saliba’s agents ahead of a potential move for the 23-year-old centre-back, who could replace Antonio Rudiger in the long term for the reigning UEFA Champions League holders.
Given how big Madrid are as a club, there’s been some fear amongst Arsenal fans that Saliba could swap the Emirates Stadium for the Bernabeu if the former Saint-Etienne wonderkid decides to push for a move to Los Blancos.
Yet Arsenal seem to view the situation in a completely different light.

According to CaughtOffside, Arsenal are ‘relaxed’ and ‘remain calm’ over Madrid’s interest in Saliba, with the north London side not worried that the France international will jump ship to join the reigning European champions.
As per the report, Saliba has a contract with Arsenal until 2027 and is very happy under Mikel Arteta, with the defender set to play a key role for the Gunners this season in their latest attempt to win the Premier League.
The north London giants have challenged for the title for the last two seasons, the same period when Saliba was finally introduced into the starting XI for Arsenal despite joining the club back in 2019 under Unai Emery.
Indeed, Saliba has since developed into one of the best defenders in the world at 23-years-old, and news that Arsenal are relaxed over the young centre-back staying despite interest from Madrid shows just how committed players are to Arteta’s project.
Arsenal need to consider opening contract talks with Saliba
With two-and-a-half-years left on his current contract, Arsenal can rightly feel confident about Saliba not wanting to abandon ship yet to join a club like Madrid, yet the Spanish side’s interest is still a concern of sorts.
Madrid are no strangers to waiting around for players they are interested in signing, and for Arsenal, getting down to work now to sign Saliba to a new contact could be a wise decision for the north London side.
At 23-years-old, Saliba is only going to get better, a thought that is terrifying to think about if you’re a Premier League or Champions League attacker, and Arsenal need to ensure that a talent this good is on their books for their prime years.
