John Stones has delivered a glowing assessment on the quality of Chelsea and England star Cole Palmer.

Manchester City defender John Stones previously played alongside Cole Palmer at the Etihad Stadium. Now, the Premier League rivals are only teammates on the international stage with England.

Palmer, 22, has been on a meteoric rise since Chelsea signed him from Man City in the summer of 2023. The left-footed attacker has scored 31 goals and created 20 assists in 54 Blues appearances in total.

Palmer has been named England Player of the Year this week as his list of individual accolades continues to pile up, but it feels like we’re still only at the beginning of what he can achieve.

John Stones admires Cole Palmer

Stones has praised England teammate Palmer for his approach to football on the biggest stage, comparing it to someone playing in the park.

“I was a huge fan of Cole as soon as he came into our first-team set up, what he brought to the game, how he played as if he was in the park,” Stones said, as quoted by The Express and Star.

“I was sad to see him leave, I made him aware of that, but what he has gone on and done is a credit to him, how he’s conducted himself, how he’s stepped up in big moments.

“He is in a good moment, and I hope that continues for as long as possible. Scoring in the final, he has experienced those big games now and big moments and hopefully there is more of that to come.”

Time for England to unleash Cole Palmer

There’s not an English player in the game right now in the same kind of form as Palmer, so we feel he simply has to be in the nation’s starting line-up.

The attacking playmaker watched most of the Euro 2024 tournament in the summer from the bench. Even so, he still made key contributions whenever he came on the pitch because he’s a special talent with a huge attacking threat.

It would be extremely harsh for England to overlook the Chelsea talisman when he’s playing like this.
