Gary Neville has established himself as one of the most well-known pundits in the whole of English football, and he’s recently given his view on a penalty incident involving Everton and Newcastle.

Everton find themselves two points above the relegation zone after a mini purple patch under Sean Dyche, with four points from their last two games.

Dwight McNeil played a big part in that with his two goals against Crystal Palace at Goodison Park in what is the Toffees’ only win to date.

Seamus Coleman came out recently to big up his fellow teammate McNeil, stating that he’s starting to emerge as a leader at Everton.

However, James Tarkowski, one of the Toffees’ leaders on the field, lost his head against Newcastle by bringing Sandro Tonali to the ground.

Now, Gary Neville has delivered his verdict on the penalty incident.

Gary Neville gives his verdict on James Tarkowski’s penalty incident during Everton vs Newcastle

Jamie Carragher couldn’t believe what he was seeing from James Tarkowski when he decided to bring Sandro Tonali down in the box.

Although, the less said about Carragher the better after his recent Everton outburst.

It’s a decision that VAR had no problem in awarding, and there can be very little complaints.

Interestingly, Carragher’s partner in crime, Gary Neville has given his verdict on the penalty decision.

Speaking on The Overlap US, he said.

“There was a decision later on in the day during the Everton vs Newcastle game where Tonali was pulled down by Tarkowski and he wouldn’t have gotten the ball either.

“There’s no way that swung ball in would have got to him. But I did think that was a penalty, even though it didn’t impact the play. Just because of the pure stupidity and the aggression of the hold.”

James Tarkowski’s season to date at Everton

James Tarkowski has tailed off slightly at Everton in recent games, with the Newcastle clash arguably one of his worst performance of the season.

We ended up giving him a 3/10 for his performance, stating that he stupidly dragged down Sandro Tonali to give away a penalty in a mistake that a defender of his experience should not be making.

The rest of his performance was sloppy too, with misjudgments, losing his men and making mistakes.

Interestingly, the stats suggest he had a pretty good game defensively. He made ten clearances, two blocks, four tackles, won eight duels, gave away one penalty, one foul and had 60 touches.
