Group A
Lyon had an astonishing 40 shots as they eased past Turkish side Galatasaray 3-0. It was a comprehensive start for last year’s finalists in their quest to go one better this time around. Kadidiatou Diani scored a brace while Vanessa Gilles also found herself on the scoresheet.

Ellie Carpenter started and played the full match at right-back for the French side.
Group B
Chelsea once again found a way past UWCL rivals Real Madrid, coming away from the match 3-2 victors. The Blues raced to a 2-0 lead after an early Sjoeke Nüsken goal and a penalty to Guro Reiten. Madrid got themselves back into the game before half-time thanks to a goal to Alba Redondo, but a Mayra Ramírez strike after the break gave them an unassailable lead.
It was an important win for a side who have designs on lifting the title after falling at the semi-final stage last season.
Sam Kerr was unavailable for Chelsea as she continues her knee rehabilitation. She has not been named in the squad for the group stages.
FC Twente secured their first-ever victory in the group stages of the UWCL, defeating Celtic 2-0 in Scotland. Kayleigh van Dooren scored a brace as the Dutch side made use of their 73% possession to put constant pressure on the home side.

Daniela Galic came off the bench late in the second half to see out the victory.
Group C
A hattrick to Pernille Harder has seen Bayern Munich defeat Arsenal 5-2. Arsenal took the lead via Mariona Caldentey, and then – after Bayern took the lead – dragged it back to 2-2 midway through the second half.
Enter Harder, who scored a 13-minute hattrick to secure the result for the German team and consign Arsenal to a Matchday 1 defeat.
Caitlin Foord started for Arsenal, while Steph Catley and Kyra Cooney-Cross were second-half substitutions.
Group D
Manchester City have upset the defending champions, defeating Barcelona 2-0 in front of a raucous home crowd. It was a Mary Fowler corner that led to Naomi Layzell’s first goal before Khadija Shaw made sure of the result in the second half.

City had to do plenty of defending but it was far from a smash-and-grab, with the English side going toe-to-toe with Barcelona and coming out on top.
Fowler started the match before being withdrawn late in the second half. Alanna Kennedy was a late substitute for City.
