Dean Jones admits that he’s heard a “fair few people” aren’t convinced with Julen Lopetegui as West Ham United manager.
The Spaniard has had a tough time as the Hammers boss so far with his team winning just two of their seven Premier League games, albeit the second of those came in a 4-1 rout of Ipswich Town before the international break.
Lopetegui has consequently come under pressur and Jones, when discussing the potential of the manager being sacked on the Ranks FC Podcast (9 October), shared that if he was part of West Ham’s board he’d be relieving him of his duties.
“I’ll be honest, I’ve heard reports that there are a fair few people that are not convinced about Lopetegui, and obviously there was friction recently between him and Mohammed Kudus in the dressing room at half-time,” Jones said.
“So there are other layers here that could affect the situation, but there’s emotion too, that is going to impact how this goes, and we’ll see whether they’re (the West Ham board) on the right side of those feelings once we come out of this break.
“Honestly, I’d probably sack him (Lopetegui). I think they’ve got it wrong. I don’t think this is the right man for them. I think it’s a waste of time. I’d sack him”.
West Ham United need to make their decision on Julen Lopetegui
Although in their most recent Premier League game the Hammers managed to triumph 4-1 over Ipswich, it feels like more can come from the team.
Lopetegui sanctioned a massive overhaul of players in the summer with talent such as Jean Clair-Todibo and Niclas Fullkrug coming through the London Stadium doors.
While their performance in the transfer market seemed fairly strong on paper, it feels as if the team haven’t quite clicked yet.
Some of the new arrivals haven’t been fully bedded in yet and since Fullkrug has been sidelined for close to a month now, maybe their full potential hasn’t yet been realised.

Lopetegui’s future has been under scrutiny due to their underperformance with the Hammers even reportedly giving him a three-game ultimatum .
If they do choose to sack the Spaniard, they need to make that decision before it gets too late to reverse any potential damage he could inflict.
