Liverpool have been dealt a huge blow with goalkeeper Alisson Becker out injured for a lengthy period of time. The Brazilian will be absent until late November after scans revealed a hamstring injury.

Alisson's injury marks the third time he has suffered a hamstring problem in 2024. The shot-stopper was sidelined for over a month earlier this year, missing out on Liverpool's Carabao Cup victory over Chelsea in February.

A similar issue arose earlier in the season, with Alisson absent from the 3-0 triumph over Bournemouth. This recurring issue is likely to be a concern for Arne Slot.

Following the October international break, Liverpool are set to face a challenging series of matches against Chelsea, RB Leipzig, Arsenal, Brighton (twice), Bayer Leverkusen and Aston Villa. Alisson will miss all these games in what could be a defining period for Slot's team.

Slot will now need to turn to backup keeper Caoimhin Kelleher who was linked with a move away from Anfield this summer. The Irishman was absent from the Crystal Palace game through illness with the Reds forced to use debutant Vitezslav Jaros instead.

Liverpool also have new signing Giorgi Mamardashvili on their books, but the Georgian international is currently out on loan at Valencia, having been loaned back to the La Liga club this summer.

Kelleher now looks to be the most likely replacement for Alisson and the 25-year-old did well when he filled in earlier this year. Ex-Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has previously hailed him as "the best No. 2 goalkeeper in the world" and that should be reassuring for Slot.

“Alisson Becker is the best goalie in the world for me,” said Klopp. “There are other good goalkeepers out there but this goalie is absolutely insane. But to be honest for me Caoimhin Kelleher is the best No. 2 in the world as well.

“The game he played tonight was absolutely incredible. I can remember at least two incredible saves, and probably there were more. So he proved that the decision to line him up (ahead of Alisson) was absolutely right."
