Gary Shaw, the Aston Villa legend and European Cup winner, passed away at the age of 63 last month

Gary’s funeral is set to take place on Wednesday, October 16.

The service will take place at Sutton Coldfield Crematorium in Four Oaks and will begin at 2.30pm.

A procession will begin at Villa Park and is due to arrive at 1.15pm. Itwill then depart at 1.30pm and head towards Sutton Coldfield Crematorium.

Close friends and family including managers and players are expected to be in attendance inside the church.

Born in Solihull, Shaw joined the club as an apprentice and quickly rose through the ranks, making his debut in the 1978-79 season. Shaw’s partnership with Peter Withe was instrumental in Villa’s success, leading the team to win the First Division title in 1981 and the European Cup in 1982.

The club paid their respects to Shaw before the Champions League clash against Bayern Munich last week. A mural was also unveiled of Shaw at the Witton Arms near Villa Park.
