Newcastle United full-back Tino Livramento has won a call-up to Lee Carsley's England squad.

The Toon star had initially been called into Carsley's UEFA Nations League squad last month for games against the Republic of Ireland and Finland but did not get on the field. Livramento was then named in the Under-21 squad for this month's internationals before being handed a surprise today alongside Liverpool star Curtis Jones.

It means that three Newcastle players find themselves in contention to face Greece in the Nations League game at Wembley on Thursday night. Livramento joined up with familiar faces Anthony Gordon and Nick Pope ahead of clashes with Greece and Finland in Helsinki.

Speaking about working with Carsley, Livramento said last month: "Obviously with Lee getting called up to be the seniors’ manager, I’ve seen it as a good opportunity for me because obviously, I knew him.

“But I think it’s down to you as a player with how you play every weekend for your club. I think that’s the main thing. I feel like I’ve started this season alright, so this is a good opportunity for me.”

Livramento has been in a running battle with club-mate and ex-England star Kieran Trippier this season for the right-back slot at Newcastle. Having started the season ahead of Trippier, Livramento lost his place but he has still made positive contributions off the bench.

The former Chelsea and Southampton full-back hailed Trippier for his support despite being in competition with him for a place. He said: “He’s been an immense help for me – not just football-wise, but like helping me settle. “It’s tough when you move from probably one of the clubs that’s furthest south to one that’s furthest north, so he just helped me get settled straight away.

"Then obviously on the pitch, it’s just a different level. (He's) someone that I look up to and someone that I watch every day when they’re training, trying to take parts of their game into mine.”
