Leeds United are one of Adidas’ big clubs when it comes to revenue, but they aren’t yet seen amongst the global elite by the kit manufacturer.

Leeds’ commercial strength is much greater than their current league standing would suggest in the Championship, typically pulling in commercial revenue more befitting of a side pushing for Europe than a side aiming for promotion.

Kit sales are key evidence of Leeds standing amongst some of the top-half clubs in the Premier League, something Adidas will no doubt be well aware of.

Newcastle’s current deal is similar to Leeds’ in terms of the merchandise available with training gear and lifestyle items including retro homages – Leeds’ long-sleeve Smiley badge shirt selling out virtually instantly.

It suggests Leeds aren’t quite being lifted up in Adidas’ estimations just yet, now in the final year of their deal with the German designer.

Leeds’ business is lucrative for whichever designer is wanting a deal

You can see plainly in how many kits Leeds sell that they are going to be a very important client for whichever manufacturer wants to tie us down.

Adidas will see that and potentially, it could see them extend their terms with the club beyond this season.

However, other brands might see how well Leeds’ kits sell and consider gazumping Adidas, which is worth considering.
