George Earthy signed for Bristol City on a season-long loan in August. The 19-year-old made his breakthrough with the Hammers at the end of last season, making three substitute appearances, including a goal against Luton in a 3-1 win.

Upon signing for the Robins, manager Liam Manning stated, “George will add a different dynamic to our attack. We know he will bring a huge amount of energy when he plays. He has an ability to create.”

Fast forward to October, and the West Ham youngster has only made three appearances with a combined 23 minutes of playing time.

The England U-20 star will be expecting more game time to make an impression, and it’s surprising that he hasn’t been given more minutes in a Robins shirt.

It has been a slow start for City, who are currently 16th in the Championship with eleven points.

Bristol City fans impressed with youngster

On his debut, City fans were full of praise. On one chat board, comments included: “made me actually sit up and get excited when he came on,” “George looks class,” and “the most competent player on the pitch,” and this was after just four minutes!

The 2024 Young Hammer of the Year is highly rated by the backroom staff at West Ham, so the loan move must be beneficial to both the player and his club. He was heavily involved in pre-season, including the club’s tour of America, but such are the options available to West Ham Head Coach Julen Lopetegui that the loan move was set up to prepare Earthy for the Premier League in future seasons.

Hopefully, Manning will integrate the midfielder into his team, and both City and West Ham fans will see the potential this player has to offer. Manning knows him well from his time managing the youngster when he was the academy coach at West Ham from 2015 to 2019.

It is understood there is no January recall, so Earthy will be a City player for the duration of 2024-2025.
