Manchester United flop David Moyes reckons Erik ten Hag is doing a "brilliant job".

Ten Hag's job is on the line at Old Trafford, with United's chief execs holding a crisis meeting on Tuesday (9 October). The Dutchman watched his side hold Aston Villa over the weekend, but they still remain slumped in 14th, after their worst ever start to a Premier League season.

"I think he's doing a brilliant job," David Moyes told BBC Sport over the weekend. "I think he's showed brilliant resilience in the situation that he's in; I think he should be credited for how well he's conducted himself.

"As far as I know I don't see him ducking any questions or any media interviews that you people put forward to him. I think you have to give him great credit for that.

"But it's a job that's going to attract immense pressure, immense people talking. So I have to say I think he's doing a brilliant job."

Moyes himself infamously struggled at the Red Devils, after he was named as Sir Alex Ferguson's successor. He recorded United's then worst ever finish in the Premier League era, when he stumbled to seventh in 2013-14, before Ten Hag broke that record last season by finishing in eighth.

The Dutchman has seemingly clung on to following a summit meeting of the club’s hierarchy on Tuesday during which Ten Hag's position as manager was discussed. The 54-year-old has overseen United’s worst ever start to a Premier League season with eight points from seven games and only five goals scored.

They sit five points above the relegation zone and six points below fourth going into the latest international break. The Red Devils first game after the international break comes at Old Trafford against Brentford before they clash with Fenerbahce in Europe.

United will clash with a familiar foe, with ex-Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho at the helm of the Turkish giants. Fenerbahce also boast Sofyan Amrabat and Fred in their midfield.
