Arne Slot faces his biggest so far as Liverpool manager with goalkeeper Alisson Becker set to miss at least six weeks through injury. The Brazilian had to be replaced late on in Saturday's win against Crystal Palace and scans have revealed the worst.

A hamstring tear suffered at Selhurst Park is thought to have been aggravated previously during the victory over AC Milan last month. In south London he was unable to complete the full match though, making way for third-choice Vitezlsav Jaros.

Caoimhin Kelleher missed the game at Palace through illness but will once more be called on for extended period, just as he was last season, with Alisson ruled out. Unsurprisingly, Slot's main shot-stopper won't be going away with his country during the international break.

Although the timing of Alisson's injury does mean Liverpool have two weeks to prepare for the visit of Chelsea, things get significantly harder in the weeks to come. After a relatively simple start to life in English football, the Reds and Slot now face up to a tricky run.

Before the next international break, between November 11 and November 23, Liverpool take on Brighton twice (once in the Carabao Cup), Bayer Leverkusen, Aston Villa, Chelsea, RB Leipzig, and Arsenal. Alisson is likely to miss all of these games at minimum.

It is understood that the hamstring issue will sideline him until late November in a best-case scenario at this stage. For Slot's sake, the hope will be that he can return as soon after the next set of internationals as possible.

The first game back following the next domestic pause is away to Southampton, a gentle introduction, but then things pick up again. Real Madrid visit Anfield, Manchester City follow just four days later, with trips to Newcastle and then Everton in the first Merseyside derby of the season to come within a fortnight as well.

By the time it is Girona in Europe on December 10, Liverpool will be more than keen to have Alisson in between the sticks. There is a precedent for Kelleher taking on a bulk of matches at key moments though.

Last term alone he deputsied for over two months from February to April as Alisson overcame a hamstring injury, playing eight league games in a row. In total, Alisson missed 17 matches due to fitness problems.

Kelleher has largely impressed when called on. He was tipped to make a move in order to pursue first-choice opportunities. Liverpool will now be thankful that he remained.

Here is a list of all the games Alisson could miss if he is out until the end of November (matches are Premier League fixtures unless stated otherwise):

  • Chelsea (H) - Sunday, October 20
  • RB Leipzig (A), Champions League - Wednesday, October 23
  • Arsenal (A) - Sunday, October 27
  • Brighton (A), Carabao Cup - Wednesday, October 30
  • Brighton (H) - Saturday, November 2
  • Bayer Leverkusen (H), Champions League - Tuesday, November 5
  • Aston Villa (H) - Saturday, November 9
  • Southampton (A) - Sunday, November 24
  • Real Madrid, Champions League - Wednesday, November 27

Matches to follow until mid-December are at home to City, away to Newcastle, Everton, and Girona. Unless Alisson suffers a setback it is likely he will be back by this stage at the latest.
