Aston Villa will just miss out on a top eight finish, according to a supercomputer.

Mathematician Piotr Klimek and Football Rankings have come together to present their findings following the latest round of results in the UEFA Champions League. The Villains are two in two after beating Young Boys in Switzerland and then claiming an historic win against German giants Bayern Munich.

In the previous prediction, Villa were predicted to finish 12th, but now following their win against Vincent Kompany’s side, they’ve gone up four places. Unai Emery’s men have a 41.5% probability of reaching the top eight, and an 80.1% chance of at least finishing in the top six, and progressing to the knockout rounds.

The predictions show that the data experts think that Villa have a chance of finishing above household European names such as Juventus, Barcelona, PSG and AS Monaco. This is Villa’s first European campaign in 40-years, and supporters are enjoying it.

Elsewhere in their predictions, Borussia Dortmund after thrashing Celtic 7-1 at the Signal Iduna Park, are now tipped to finish top out of all the 36 teams. Manchester City will finish second, Arsenal will then be in fourth, and Liverpool in seventh. Reigning champions Real Madrid are tipped to beat Villa to the eighth and final spot, which gives them a bye in to the next round.
