Erik ten Hag's future as Manchester United manager remains unclear following their awful start to the season.

The club's executive team held a meeting in London on Tuesday where Ten Hag's future was discussed. The Red Devils have won just two of their opening seven Premier League games so far this campaign.

But rather than blaming Ten Hag for those struggles, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes controlling co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe should be feeling the heat. Carragher's comments come as former United boss David Moyes insisted Ten Hag is doing a 'brilliant' job.

And Harry Maguire has confirmed the extent of the injury he suffered in the bore draw with Aston Villa at the weekend. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest Manchester United news.

Carragher points finger at Ratcliffe

Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher has slammed Manchester United’s owners for their treatment of Erik ten Hag. The Dutchman is set to keep his job despite his struggles, but Carragher believes United's higher-ups have left him 'hanging out to dry'.

“I think it will be tough for him. I have sympathy for him because I think he’s been left to hang out to dry a little bit on the back of what happened in the summer with the ownership speaking to other managers," he told Sky Sports.

“So I feel for him. No manager or anyone in employment would want his bosses publicly speaking to lots of different people within the game. But it’s going to be tough for him to see out the season.”

Former United boss David Moyes has handed his backing to the beleaguered Ten Hag. Moyes was the first manager to take on the challenge of succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson back in 2013 and knows all about the pressure which Ten Hag is currently under.

He told BBC Sport : "I think he's doing a brilliant job. I think he's shown brilliant resilience in the situation that he's in and I think he should be credited for how well he's conducted himself."

"As far as I know, I don't see him ducking any questions or any media interviews that you people put forward to him. I think you have to give him great credit for that but it’s a job that is going to attract immense pressure, people talking, so I have to say that I think he's doing a brilliant job."

Maguire set for weeks on sidelines

Harry Maguire has revealed he is set for weeks on the sidelines after suffering an injury in the draw with Aston Villa. The 31-year-old was forced off at the end of the first half after defending a set piece and was replaced by Matthijs de Ligt at half-time.

United have since confirmed Maguire picked up a muscle injury at Villa Park. Maguire added: “Frustrated to pick up an injury at the weekend, will be a few weeks on the sideline for me but I’ll come back stronger."

United have also seen Kobbie Mainoo withdraw from England's upcoming matches through injury and Alejandro Garnacho pull out of Argentina's squad with a knee issue.
