Latest Liverpool news and gossip as the Premier League and PGMOL have released the latest round of VAR audio that includes an incident during the Reds' win over Crystal Palace

PGMOL chief refereeing officer, Howard WebbVAR audio has emerged surrounding the decision not to award Crystal Palace a penalty against Liverpool. The Reds claimed a 1-0 win over Palace in the Premier League at the weekend to retain their spot at the top of the table going into the October international break.
Diogo Jota scored the decisive goal to secure the three points for Arne Slot's team, but Liverpool faced a nervous wait over a VAR check for a penalty for Palace. Video assistant referee David Coote looked at an incident that saw Virgil van Dijk appear to hold defender Marc Guehi during a cross into the penalty area.
Referee Simon Hooper did not award a spot-kick and Coote, who looked at replays of the incident for VAR, agreed with the on-field decision. Coote explained that the "hold" by an Van Dijk was not enough to award a penalty for Palace.

PGMOL chief Howard Webb also appeared on the show to discuss the incident, alongside former Liverpool striker Michael Owen. Webb echoed the views of Coote on VAR and believes the correct decision was made not to award Palace a penalty against the Reds.
"In this case we see an action by Van Dijk that is very quick, particularly at full speed and the ball is always going towards the goalkeeper," said Webb.
"We don't think that the action really impacts Guehi's ability to get to the ball. The referee saw it that way, didn't penalise and when the VAR checked it, they saw it in the same way and cleared it for what it was, a very quick holding that didn't impact Guehi's ability to play the ball."
"If you look at the at 50 per cent , of course it's going to double the amount of time the holding happens and if you put it at 25 per cent, it makes it four times as long and of course it can look a lot more impactful as well."
