Each goal that Jhon Duran nets for Aston Villa must cause acute embarrassment to West Ham United’s Technical Director Tim Steidten who, apparently, had the brief opportunity to acquire Duran early in the summer at an affordable price. Duran ‘slipped through West Ham’s fingers’ and the rest is history.

The Irons instead bought 31 year old Niclas Fullkrug, German super sub from the Bundesliga with a reputation for scoring crucial goals from the bench but, it must be said, a historic bad ACL injury and over a year out of the game plus another 12 weeks with a calf problem. In fairness, these were both a long time ago, between 2018-21.

After a total of sixty three Premier League minutes, Fullkrug was injured whilst on International duty with the German national side and hasn’t been seen since. Rumours both in print and today across a couple of videos I had on in the background suggested that Fullkrug’s injury was worse than the club had admitted to and he would need surgery. Might not be back until next year.

How embarrassing would that be for West Ham, to be still reliant on Antonio’s hamstrings then, even by Christmas, after signing Fullkrug for €27 million plus add-ons on a four year deal.  We decided to speak with our high ranking source at the club concerning this rumour that Nic Fullkrug needed an operation, expecting to be rubbished.

The answer came back: “I’ve heard nothing about our players needing operations, but anything is possible: Last I heard … expected to be on or near bench for Spurs”.

Completely threw me for a second. Had expected just to be told ”A load of rubbish – he’s fine’. But we weren’t. I’m sure everyone  at and near the top at West Ham knows exactly the state of one of their biggest assets who’s been unavailable for weeks: I bet they’ve spent ages in preparing the formal request for compensation from FIFA for Fullkrug’s salary which kicks in (excuse the pun) after 28 days absence.

So, “curiouser and curiouser”: Fullkrug himself posts Instagram pics saying ‘Can’t wait to be back>soon ‘ but – the rumour that his injury is worse and might even need surgery will persist until we see him going full-gas, in club photos or the club ‘in-training’ video preparation for Spurs.

Fullkrug’s insta post stating ‘can’t wait to be back > soon’

I hope I’m wrong, nothing would be better than to see Fullkrug marching out against The Spurs. Keep an eye on the club ‘training hard for Tottenham’ videos and galleries and see if you can spot Fullkrug. In the meantime, let’s see what more we can find out.
