Liverpool face a potential crisis next summer with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk all set to become free agents.
The Anfield trio are yet to sign new contracts with Liverpool seemingly no closer to handing Alexander-Arnold, Salah and Van Dijk fresh terms to ensure the three superstar players all remain on Merseyside beyond this season.
With Salah attracting serious interest from Saudi Arabia, Van Dijk also wanted by Saudi Pro League sides and Alexander-Arnold a target for Real Madrid, there is a realistic world where all three players leave Liverpool in 2025.
And John Barnes has now urged Liverpool fans to do something if Alexander-Arnold, Salah and Van Dijk all leave.
Liverpool fans told to respect the club if Alexander-Arnold, Salah and Van Dijk leave
Speaking on TalkSport, the Liverpool legend told fans to respect the club if either of Alexander-Arnold, Salah or Van Dijk pass up the option to sign a new contract with the Reds in order to leave Anfield next year.
Given how important all three players are for Liverpool, there’s almost a 100% chance that at least one of Alexander-Arnold, Salah and Van Dijk will leave Merseyside, yet Barnes has now called for fans to be calm if such a situation was to happen.

Barnes said how Liverpool fans should react if one of the club’s star players were to leave for free next summer: “I would urge fans not to have a go at the club and say: ‘Oh, they are lacking ambition by not keeping them.’

“Because if they are going to go, they will go. There’s not a lot that the club can do. They will offer them their best contracts, which they will do, and if they choose not to sign it, don’t be critical of the club.”
Liverpool fans need to give the club and players respect in 2025
As Barnes himself mentions, Liverpool are likely trying day and night to keep all three players at the club beyond this season, with Alexander-Arnold, Salah and Van Dijk aware with how loved they are at Anfield.
Which is why if one of them were to leave next summer to explore a new adventure in football, Liverpool fans owe it to the players and to the club to give them the respect they need after everything that has happened in the last few years.
Alexander-Arnold, Salah and Van Dijk will all go down as modern Liverpool legends regardless of what happens to them in the coming weeks, and the three have earned their right to decide their own fates at this stage in their careers.
