Ally McCoist would not like to see Everton relegated from the Premier League following their slow start to the campaign.

After losing their first four games of the league campaign, Sean Dyche’s side sat rock-bottom of the table, but have now secured five points from their last three matches to boost themselves out of the relegation zone.

The Toffees are playing their final season at Goodison Park before moving to the Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium ahead of the 2025/26 term, and they will be hoping to remain in the Premier League too.

Speaking live via talkSPORT on Tuesday (8 October, 9:37am), McCoist said: “They had that period of a couple of games, going 2-0 up and losing 3-2.

“I always felt they would be OK because they were scoring goals. Calvert-Lewin is obviously key to them. I think they’ll get enough results at home, and I’m pleased they’ve turned the corner.

“I don’t care what anyone else says, as a football fan, I would not like to see Everton start the next season in a new stadium in anything other than the top flight.”

Everton to avoid Premier League relegation despite poor start?

Dyche was under immense pressure after the opening four games, especially after back-to-back 3-2 defeats to Bournemouth and Aston Villa, but things finally look to have steadied.

Although the Toffees are still very much at risk of falling back into the relegation zone, claiming a point against seventh-placed Newcastle United after a win over Crystal Palace is rather important.

Dyche’s side prided themselves on their defensive record last season, having only conceded more goals than Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool in the league, but that is far from reality now.

They have already conceded 15 goals after seven matches, joint with Southampton and only better than Wolves, though goals being scored no longer look to be an issue.

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Dwight McNeil and Iliman Ndiaye scoring, the Toffees have seven goals in their last five games, and that should help boost them up the Premier League table.

Being relegated to the Championship, while not immediately threatening due to parachute payments, could be hugely destructive for a club like Everton.
