Bianca Westwood shared her verdict on Julen Lopetegui .

West Ham United’s 4-1 win over Ipswich Town was a “make-or-break” moment for Julen Lopetegui, according to talkSPORT host Bianca Westwood.

The Hammers moved up to 12th in the table with the emphatic victory, which ended a run of three straight home defeats to start the campaign.

Lopetegui had faced some scrutiny early in his Hammers tenure after an indifferent start to the season and Westwood, speaking live on talkSPORT (8 October, 06:42am), thinks it was a timely victory for the Spaniard.

“There are certain factions in the West Ham fanbase that never really wanted Lopetegui in the first place,” Westwood said.

“So you don’t really want to give them any more ammunition, I know the teams that we’ve played at home are Villa, City, Chelsea but you’d still expect to get at least a point out of that.

“The performances weren’t great so I’d go as far as to say it was a make-or-break match for Lopetegui”.

It had certainly been an underwhelming start to the campaign for Hammers supporters, whose expectations had been raised by an extremely active summer recruitment drive.

Which is why a section of fans have already begun questioning Julen Lopetegui given how slow they started the campaign.

The win over Ipswich feels like a much-needed shot in the arm, though, and hopefully now some of the summer arrivals can really start to make a mark.

Jean Clair-Todibo is just one of the many players that Lopetegui brought in to try and bolster his squad during the summer.

While the Frenchman has only recently been afforded an extended run in West Ham’s starting XI, it’s clear to see the impact that he’ll have on helping keep clean sheets in the future.

Alongside Max Kilman, the pair will make a dynamic pairing with early signs of this already being shown.

Of course, fans can’t get too carried away with their performance against Kieran McKenna’s men but the fact that West Ham got a positive result, is certainly a step in the right direction.
