Wolves could have the chance to sign a former Real Madrid star this summer, as the player looks for a new club.

The summer transfer window has been encouraging for Gary O’Neil at Wolves so far, with four new signings to report.

Tommy Doyle, Pedro Lima, Jorgen Strand Larsen and Rodrigo Gomes represent the club’s opening four captures of the summer, with more movement expected.

While O’Neil will be satisfied with his work in the market so far, it’s now been reported that the Midlands club could up their quality by signing one star.

Wolves offered the chance to sign former Real Madrid star James Rodriguez

Wolves’ four captures of the transfer window so far hand O’Neil some fresh upcoming talent, with all players under the age of 25.

While the quartet will add a lot to the manager’s squad, there is some experience lacking, which could be eased by one possible arrival this summer.

As reported by Portuguese outlet O Jogo, Wolves are one of several Premier League clubs to be in with the chance of signing James Rodriguez.

MORE WOLVES STORIES

The report details the 33-year-old’s departure from Brazilian side Sao Paulo and now, a challenge in England could await him, with five Premier League sides listed as being clubs the Colombian has been ‘offered to’.

Alongside Wolves are Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest, Fulham and Brighton, with Rodriguez’s agent Jorge Mendes scoping out a possible new home for his client.

Being a representative of Mendes, Wolves could be at an advantage with signing the former Real Madrid ace, who could bring a host of experience with him to Molineux.

James Rodriguez would be an interesting signing for Gary O’Neil

At 33, Wolves wouldn’t be signing the Rodriguez that lit up the 2014 World Cup with his magnificent goal for Colombia against Uruguay.

That being said, the versatile attacker’s veteran profile could be what Wolves need this summer, with a lack of experience noticed within O’Neil’s squad at present.

As well as being in the latter stages of his career, the two-time Champions League winner could come ready installed with Premier League experience, having spent a year at Everton in 2020.

During that time, the forward was lauded as “unbelievable” by Carlo Ancelotti, as he contributed to 14 goals in 26 appearances, as his brief spell on Merseyside was hijacked by injury.

Despite being older now, Rodriguez could add a sense of expertise to the squad’s attack that is currently absent, having secured 475 domestic appearances in his career, where he has contributed to an impressive 272 goals.

It would certainly be a statement for Wolves to hire the Colombian this summer, with him having the potential to add more than just his quality to O’Neil’s side.
