Manchester City have several figures at their disposal that even a Manchester United legend like Wayne Rooney would happily admit to be an admirer of.
For instance, ahead of Belgium’s 0-0 draw against Ukraine at the European Championship, Rooney heaped praise on Kevin De Bruyne, revealing that he has always wished to have played with him.
Wayne Rooney also lauded Pep Guardiola by claiming that his presence has been a blessing for English football.
The now-Plymouth Argyle boss is one of, if not the most iconic player to have ever donned a Manchester United shirt.
However, Wayne Rooney has always seemed to openly admire the big names at City.
Rooney admitted Phil Foden is “more mature” than he was at the same age with the ball at his feet.

Rooney says Foden is better than Bellingham
Considering the retired forward is one of the greatest players in the history of the game, for him to make such a huge claim about Foden was indicative of how highly he rates him.
During Euro 2024, Rooney persisted with Foden being his favoured pick for England in the number 10 position.
The Champions League winner seems to be a huge fan of the 24-year-old.
Much like Wayne Rooney, the £225,000-a-week man was also tipped to become a world-class player from a young age.
In a similar vein to Rooney, the Stockport-born midfielder has also managed to live up to the promise he showcased from when he was a teenager and turned into a top player.
While speaking to talkSPORT, the 38-year-old was discussing the Three Lions.
Wayne Rooney singled Foden out as England’s best player, claiming he is superior to Jude Bellingham.
“Foden for me. I know he hasn’t played that much this season for City but I think Phil Foden at his best, you know, he’s the best player England have got.”
“I think Cole Palmer’s been sensational over the last season and the start of this season. Jude Bellingham, obviously, what he’s doing at Real Madrid. But for me, Phil Foden is the only who I really enjoy watching.”
Phil Foden will be hoping Lee Carsley agrees with Wayne Rooney
While Foden and Bellingham are constantly compared to each other, it is interesting that Wayne Rooney prefers the former as a player.
Coming from a footballing titan of Rooney’s ilk, the Manchester City superstar must appreciate his glowing verdict.
During the international break, Foden will be hoping England interim boss Lee Carsley agrees with the former Everton goalscorer.
As the Three Lions play Greece and Finland in the Nations League, the six-time Premier League winner will be aiming to start as an attacking midfielder in either one of the games.
However, Bellingham could be the reason why Foden sits on the bench if Lee Carsley fancies him in the number 10 slot instead.
If it came down to a choice between the two, the diminutive attacker will be hoping Lee Carsley gives him a chance to prove himself over the Real Madrid technician.
Apart from Cole Palmer, Bellingham remains Foden’s main competition in the attacking midfield role in the national team.
