Kobbie Mainoo has withdrawn from England duty because of injury, it has been confirmed in a statement. The midfielder played 85 minutes of the Premier League draw against Aston Villa having missed the chaotic 3-3 Porto stalemate after going off with a suspected hamstring issue in the defeat to Tottenham the previous weekend.

United have been rocked by injury concerns in recent weeks amid the growing pressure on head coach Erik ten Hag. In the clash at Villa Park, Harry Maguire picked up a serious looking injury with Noussair Mazraoui also taken off and replaced by Victor Lindelof at half time.

The summer arrival has also since pulled out of representing his country with Morocco announcing his early departure on Monday. Already on the injury list are the likes of Mason Mount, Leny Yoro, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

United have endured a challenging start to the campaign and are now without a win in five which has seen talk of a Ten Hag departure increase. Thomas Tuchel is also back on the list of potential replacements with the former Chelsea boss out of work since leaving Bayern Munich in May.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and United chiefs now have a number of decisions to make with meetings scheduled for the coming days in order to make a final manager call. With the international break now ongoing, United have time to consider their options before returning to action against Brentford on October, 19.

Following that clash, some favourable fixtures are on the horizon with five of the Reds' next seven games, including two games against newly-promoted Leicester City, to come at Old Trafford.
