Jarell Quansah has seen his impressive progress at Liverpool rewarded with an improved new long-term contract. The 21-year-old centre-back has put pen to paper on a new deal having enjoyed a breakthrough season last term with the Reds.

Quansah, who has been at the club's Academy since the age of five, make his senior debut last August from the bench at Newcastle United before going on to make 33 appearances in all competitions, including the League Cup final win over Chelsea.

His impressive form saw him called up to the provisional England squad for the European Championship in the summer, and has remained part of the first-team squad under Arne Slot and started the Premier League opener at Ipswich Town.

Quansah most recently signed a contract in only May 2023 but Liverpool have made the move to strengthen the commitment of the player to the club.

During the recent transfer window, the Reds underlined the importance of the defender by rejecting an offer from Newcastle United to include Quansah in a potential deal to sign Anthony Gordon from the Magpies.

Liverpool regard the proactive deal as an indication of how new sporting director Richard Hughes plans to operate regards contracts and transfers.

And Quansah told liverpoolfc.com: “I couldn’t be happier at this minute. I think the way the new manager has come in, his coaching style has definitely been a massive part of that and I think it is the best club in the world for me to develop at and become a better player.

“I think the players around me, who I’m looking to work hard off and listen to, I think they’re the best in the position at the minute. There is probably no better place I could be.

“I just want to keep trying to get better on the training pitch really and as long as I stay tunnel vision to that... I just want to keep progressing, keep trying to learn, and keep trying to get better and better (by) trying to learn off all the senior players, and I’ve got a lot in my position so anything I can take from them I am trying to do day by day.

“I am hoping to obviously push as well, hopefully we’re breeding quite a good environment that we’re all challenging for places and as long as we’re doing that I think we’ll all become better players and ultimately become a better team.”

The Reds are also looking to agree a new deal with Quansah's fellow centre-back Ibrahima Konate, who is currently ahead of his team-mate in the pecking order to partner skipper Virgil van Dijk at the heart of defence.

Liverpool are still to finalise the futures of Van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, who have all entered the final 12 months of their present deals and, at present, will be free to talk to clubs from abroad from January.
