Trent Alexander-Arnold's future at Liverpool remains uncertain as the January transfer window moves closer. The Reds vice-captain's contract is set to expire at the end of the season and there is currently no sign of an extension being agreed.

Alexander-Arnold is one of four players whose contract expires at the end of the season. Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Nat Phillips are all out of contract next summer, and with that comes speculation about what may happen next.

From January, Alexander-Arnold will be able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with clubs outside England for a free transfer in the summer of 2025. If Liverpool were to reach an agreement before the New Year, though, that would stop the chances of the academy graduate departing on a free transfer.

The ECHO has taken a look at the latest news and any updates surrounding Alexander-Arnold's future as a Liverpool player.

Talks remain ongoing with Alexander-Arnold and his representatives over a new contract at Liverpool.

The right-back has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid in recent months.

The La Liga giants recently suffered an injury blow to Dani Carvajal, which has led to rumours that interest could come for Alexander-Arnold's services in the January transfer window.

Alexander-Arnold recently spoke about his future where he admitted that he wants to remain at Liverpool at least until the end of the season.

"I have always said I want to captain the club, that is an aim of mine and a goal of mine, (but) whether that happens is out of my hands," Alexander-Arnold said back in September.

"Look, I have been at the club 20 years now, I have signed four or five contract extensions and none of those have been played out in public. And this one won’t be either. "I want to be a Liverpool player this season (as a minimum) is what I will say."

Arne Slot is regularly asked about Alexander-Arnold's future when he speaks to reporters in press conferences.

The Liverpool head coach was asked before last week's Premier League clash against Crystal Palace about the current status of contract talks with Alexander-Arnold, as well as Van Dijk and Salah.

Slot spoke to reporters on October 4 where he was asked about the latest surrounding Salah, Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk's future and if there was an update about potential contract extensions.

"Contracts?! (laughs) I was hoping in your last question that you didn't use the word 'contract' because I was saying 'Trent is doing like this and he is doing like this…'. It's the same boring answer as always," said Slot.

"I could really understand if you ask me this once every two weeks but if you ask me this after two or three days again then you still get the same answer and people feel that I'm boring them! So, try it after the international break again."
