Bruno Guimaraes endured a slow start to the season with Newcastle United.
The 26-year-old Brazilian has become a key player at St James’ Park and was handed the club captaincy over the summer.
However, he is one of multiple Newcastle stars that started the 2024/25 campaign slowly. Eddie Howe suggested a hectic summer schedule was behind Bruno Guimaraes’ poor start, and he may have a point with the midfielder building up some impressive form in recent matches.
Bruno Guimaraes was superb against Manchester City and then made a flawless substitute appearance against Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup clash.
It seems Howe is now finding out his best starting XI at Newcastle this season and is finding a better balance in midfield, but statistics show that Guimaraes needs to tidy up one part of his game in particular.

Bruno Guimaraes must work on one major flaw
Guimaraes is a great all-rounded midfielder and he has proven that he improves Newcastle in almost every area.
But if Newcastle are going to take that next step to start controlling teams and dominating matches on a regular basis, Guimaraes has one major flaw he needs to address.
According to Premier League statistics, Guimaraes has been dispossessed 18 times this season.

Only one Premier League player – West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus – has been dispossessed more than Newcastle’s star midfielder.
Tottenham’s Dejan Kulusevski and Bournemouth’s Marcus Tavernier are joint-second with Guimaraes on 18.
Guimaraes has had the most touches of any Newcastle player with 506 this season which could explain why he has been dispossessed more regularly, but it is still an area he needs to improve on.
Newcastle United must improve after international break
The Premier League has been put on pause for October’s international break, and it gives Howe and Newcastle a chance to step back and work on things over the next week.
Newcastle find themselves seventh in the Premier League table with only one defeat so far this season, but performances must improve.
Without a doubt, Newcastle’s best display of the season came in the draw to Manchester City. It was a performance full of intensity and energy but it is something Newcastle have struggled to replicate against lesser sides.
When faced with an organised defence who are happy to sit back, Newcastle struggle. More creativity and cutting-edge is needed from Newcastle’s forward players if the Magpies are going to chase down European qualification this season.
