George Edmundson scored his first goal in Middlesbrough colours since joining on loan from Ipswich Town against Watford at the weekend.
Edmundson put Boro ahead in the 54th minute but it wasn’t enough as Michael Carrick’s side conceded two goals in the final 15 minutes to fall to a 2-1 defeat.
It was a disappointing final result before the international break, which leaves the Teessiders just outside of the play-off places.

George Edmundson reflects on first goal for Middlesbrough
The defender has impressed in his first weeks at the Riverside Stadium and deserved his goal for another solid display at the back.
In most cases, scoring your first goal for a club is a special moment however in an honest interview, the 27-year-old admitted that the result had taken the shine off it.
Speaking to BBC Tees Sport, he said: “It’s good to get my first goal, but if I’m being totally honest, with the way the game has gone, I couldn’t care less. We came here to win the game and we wanted another clean sheet. We’ve thrown it away really.
“Something we’ve spoken about is the fact we control games, create loads of chances, but we need to start punishing teams. I think this season somebody will get absolutely thrashed. Sometimes 1-0 can be enough, but a lot of the time you need that second and sometimes even third goal.
“It happens and all we can do now is take the positives from it and learn from it. I don’t like losing, and neither do any of the other lads in the changing room. I’m certainly not going to be happy tonight. But I’ll wake up tomorrow, watch the game back and then look to learn from it.”

Middlesbrough fans demand club to sign George Edmundson
It’s still early days in his time at the Riverside Stadium, but Edmundson has certainly captured the hearts of supporters.
As it stands, the defender is expected to return to Ipswich at the end of his loan spell but the idea of making his stay on Teesside a permanent one is an attractive proposition should he continue to keep up the level of performances.
And it appears that fans want him to stay at Boro, with several taking to X to call for the club to sign Edmundson permanently.

“Been dreaming all day about the English pique George Edmundson,” added a second.

“George Edmundson the epitome of an unsung hero, came in as an emergency loan, defenders dropping like flies all around him, back-to-back clean sheets, proper defender, slotted in so comfortably, solid as a rock,” commented this fan.
