Everton had enjoyed a blistering start to the summer window late last month and creeping into July, but recent weeks have been far more quiet.

That was, naturally, to be expected, but the hope is that Sean Dyche can get whatever business he needs tied up early enough to put those new players through their paces before the Premier League season starts.

Finances were bound to be an issue, especially after Dan Friedkin’s Everton takeover collapsed, but now they have been handed a fresh source of income set to prop up the rest of their transfer spending.

Everton confirm transfer of Amadou Onana to Aston Villa

Whilst it is not fresh news that Amadou Onana has joined Aston Villa in a £50m move, confirmed earlier this week, how the Toffees actually feel about the sale is yet to be widely published.

After all, were it up to Dyche, he would likely have kept the bulk of the squad together, given how successful they proved to be in the face of unrelenting adversity.

However, pressured by financial turmoil that has tormented them for years now, The Telegraph revealed how Everton are reacting to the transfer.

The report reads: ‘The breakdown of takeover talks with the Friedkin Group has opened the possibility of rivals eyeing Sean Dyche’s best players and Amadou Onana’s £50 million transfer to Aston Villa was confirmed on Monday.

‘However, Everton are adamant it will not alter their plans in the current transfer window, certainly in terms of outgoings.

‘The Onana deal was struck before US businessman Dan Friedkin pulled the plug on negotiations with majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri, with Everton believing the midfielder’s sale represented good business.

‘Despite his immense potential, Onana lost his place in Dyche’s side at the end of last season amid inconsistent form.’

Amadou Onana has just saved Everton’s summer

Whilst their net transfer loss for the window was low, given the substantial figures gained from the sales of Lewis Dobbin and Ben Godfrey, there was justified fear that this might mark the end of their spending, just three signings in.

After all, before the window even started Kevin Thelwell warned fans not to expect much.

A major sale was expected, and the fact that it is not Jarrad Branthwaite remains a win regardless if their most promising midfielder has departed.

Especially given the huge fee he has commanded will likely prop up the rest of their summer spending, once again allowing Thelwell to wade into the market to find a new winger or two, a replacement central midfielder and maybe even a centre-back.

Because of Amadou Onana’s sacrifice, Everton’s summer, which had quietened down significantly of late, has been saved.
