Jamie Carragher has blasted Everton for mocking ex-Toffees star Anthony Gordon on social media after the Newcastle United winger missed a penalty.
In the first half of Newcastle and Everton's Saturday evening clash at Goodison Park, the Magpies were awarded a penalty when Blues skipper James Tarkowski hauled down Sandro Tonali in the box. After a VAR check, referee Craig Pawson awarded Newcastle the spot-kick, with Gordon stepping up to take it against his former team.
But, the Magpies star saw his tame penalty saved by Jordan Pickford. Gordon's penalty was a poor one, with Pickford making a routine save by diving down low to his left, and it produced huge cheers from the Everton faithful.

The contest finished 0-0 at Goodison, with Gordon routinely booed throughout the game due to how he departed Everton back in 2023 to force a move through to Newcastle. However, the following day after the game, the Toffees official X account posted a highlight of Pickford's penalty save, attaching a comment from a fan which read: "Wish they had of played the buzzer from half time when the penalty was saved."
And it was that post from Everton mocking their former player that saw former Liverpool defender Carragher blast the Toffees on social media. Carragher wrote on X: "Local lad who came through your academy, helped keep you up under Lampard, wanted out because the club was a shambles on & off the pitch & who you then sold for 40M. The Peoples club!"
Then later, replying to a fan who wrote: "If you can't innocently rip the p*ss out of former players who wouldn't train, caused murder with senior pros, and went missing to get his own deal done, then what's the point anymore?!?", Carragher said: "Of course you can, as you did yesterday!
"And will do for the next 10 yrs at Goodison when comes back but don't expect the official club socials to do it."

Some Everton fans however backed the club's post, with one writing in response to Carragher: "Refused to train, refused to play, we accommodated his move late Jan, left ourselves short in relegation run in. Came Goodison, subbed on at 90 mins in an already 4-1 game, fist-pumping/gloating towards tunnel camera after result that steered the club which give him everything into relegation. Whatever lad."
Posting himself on Instagram following his penalty miss, Gordon wrote: "A great performance, just couldn’t put them away, and that’s on me. Never easy missing but you’ll never ever see me shy away from stepping up for my team.
"Thanks to everyone that travelled - till next time."
