Former Premier League striker Clinton Morrison has criticised Crystal Palace defender Daniel Munoz for the build-up to Liverpool's winning goal. The Reds claimed a 1-0 victory against Palace in the Premier League clash at Selhurst Park on Saturday lunchtime.

Diogo Jota scored the winning goal for Liverpool in the ninth minute with his second of the season. The Portugal international latched onto a cross from Cody Gakpo to put the Reds in front early in south west London, with a goal that proved to be enough to decide the contest.

Morrison analysed Jota's goal during Sky Sports' Soccer Saturday coverage. The former Palace striker was critical of Munoz's role in the build-up to the goal for the Eagles.

“Palace defended poorly, if there's no pressure on the ball then you've got to stick with your runner," Morrison told Sky Sports.

"It’s a great ball inside. Munoz, I don’t know what he is doing. He’s just daydreaming, doesn’t check his shoulder.

"Great ball from Tsimikas, Gakpo gets to the left-hand side and whips a ball in and Jota, six yards out no defenders near him, taps it past Henderson."

Munoz was substituted just eight minutes after Jota's goal where he was replaced by former Liverpool defender Nathaniel Clyne. Even though the Reds could not get a second goal, a sixth clean sheet in all competitions meant the strike from Jota was enough to secure all three points.

Victory for Liverpool meant that Arne Slot's side maintained their place at the top of the Premier League table heading into the October international break. Elsewhere, Arsenal claimed a 3-1 win over Southampton while Manchester City survived a late scare against Fulham to win 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium.
