Gary Lineker has reacted to the latest Everton transfer news
Sun 6 October 2024 9:40, UK
Gary Lineker slammed James Tarkowski after he conceded a penalty for a foul on Sandro Tonali when Everton drew 0-0 with Newcastle at Goodison Park on Saturday.
Tarkowski’s blushes were spared when Jordan Pickford saved Anthony Gordon’s resulting spot-kick after the Blues defender wrestled Tonali to the deck in the penalty area.
Reviewing the game on Match of the Day (5 October), Lineker and Micah Richards shared their thoughts on the foul.
“I suspect both teams will be happy with a point,” Lineker said.
“Two penalty decisions to look at though, one given and one not, who’s starting, Micah?”
Richards replied: “Tonali, you can clearly see he’s Tarkowski got his arms around him, he’s thrown him to the ground.”
Lineker then gave an instant reaction and asked “what was he thinking?” when shown the footage of the penalty call.
Sean Dyche needs Everton to keep performing well
The start to the 2024/25 season was fairly abysmal for Everton up until their 2-1 victory over the Eagles.
Despite having what seemed like a fairly solid summer transfer window, the Merseyside outfit just couldn’t find their feet.
This brought Dyche’s future into question on multiple occasions with some fans even calling for his head.
In fact, the manager himself admitted that he knows he needs to “get things right” on the pitch in order to save his job.
While the club may feel that things are starting to turn around thanks to their last couple of results, it’s evident that more positive changes can be made.

The addition of Iliman Ndiaye has improved the Toffees’ team tenfold and the Senegal international was once again hailed as “incredible” thanks to his goal line clearance within the first 10 minutes.
Dyche will no doubt want to keep the momentum within his team for their future fixtures so they can create an even larger cushion between themselves and the relegation zone.
