Gary O’Neil is under pressure after Wolves’ terrible defeat to Brentford in the Premier League.

The Old Gold headed into match day seven with one objective, to end their winless start to the season.

Unfortunately, the wait went on as Wolves suffered another collapse, losing 5-3 to Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Goals from Matheus Cunha, Jorgen Strand Larsen and Rayan Ait-Nouri were unable to make the difference, as the visitors were unable to keep the Bees out at the other end.

Gary O’Neil reacts to doubts over his Wolves future

Wolves’ inability to act on finding a way into a game continued against Brentford, as the Old Gold were level at 1-1 for only 16 minutes, and level at 2-2 for only two.

After the scoreline hit 2-2, O’Neil watched his side crumble defensively, showing no stability as the hosts went in 4-2 ahead at the interval.

It was a dire afternoon for Wolves on an occasion that carried great importance, leaving the manager’s job in jeopardy as fans made their frustration clear in the away end.

After the game, O’Neil was quizzed about his future when speaking to talkSPORT reporter Olly Clink .

“I have got no concerns about myself,” O’Neil said boldly.

“The club or the fans will decide it’s time for me to go at some point. It’s the way the game works.

“I will give everything until whenever that is. No concerns about myself at all, only the team and the club. Trying to help steer the team through a difficult situation.”

Wolves’ abysmal start to the season continued against Brentford, with just one point on the board from a possible 21 in 2024/25.

Wolves are running out of time to improve

At the start of the season, there was some understanding over Wolves’ form as a tough start was scheduled for the Midlands club.

Seven games in and little improvement has been shown, with the squad now entering the October international break without a win in the Premier League.

Astoundingly, the last time O’Neil oversaw a Premier League win was on April 27th, when the squad beat Luton Town during the 2023/24 campaign.

To add to the woes in the top-flight, Wolves haven’t won back-to-back league games in eight months, telling of the challenge the boss has to somehow overcome.

The clock is ticking for the Englishman to turn things around, with things not set to get any easier after the international break, as Manchester City await the Old Gold.
