Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed the Toffees can “forget about Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR)” once they move into the new stadium.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted the move will see a “£60-70million” increase in revenue per season and put the Merseysiders on a “much more stable financial footing”.

Everton’s new state-of-the-art stadium will hold 52,888 fans and is set to open in 2025 after construction started three years ago.

As per the Liverpool Echo (1 October), commercial chief Richard Kenyon has revealed “good progress on stadium naming rights, with offers presented to our board of directors in recent months”.

Everton were charged with two separate breaches of PSR last season and incurred an eight-point penalty in total.

Everton can ‘forget about PSR’ after stadium naming rights news, says Wyness

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “There is a lot of good news.

“Everton put out a statement this week to say they’ve had numerous bids for naming rights now, it appears to be an auction.

“Toyota have been mentioned because of the links with Friedkin in the US, where he’s a huge dealer and now assembler of cars.

“That would make sense, but there will be several options.

“In terms of how this helps Everton, it makes a huge difference. Friedkin could assume the debt, which would lead to a £60-70million increase in revenue.

“You’d certainly see Everton forget PSR for a moment, and being on a much more stable financial footing.

“That gives Everton more money to spend on the squad when PSR becomes less of a situation.

“The money can go to the right place, and that’s the really positive side.”
