Liverpool look set to be without goalkeeper Alisson for another extended period of time. The Brazilian picked up a hamstring injury during Saturday's win over Crystal Palace.

Diogo Jota's early goal sealed all three points in a 1-0 win at Selhurst Park this weekend. The result in South London means that Liverpool will go into October's international break as Premier League leaders.

Liverpool have now won all but one match under Arne Slot so far. Last month's shock 1-0 defeat at home to Nottingham Forest is the only blot on the Reds copybook under the former Feyenoord boss.

But Alisson's injury offers a serious blow to the Reds' title ambitions. And Slot has confirmed that the shot-stopper won't be back for some time.

“We don’t know definitely what happened but we do if you walk off like he does that normally means he’s not in the Brazil squad and I don’t expect him to be in the team in the first game we play afterwards (at home to Chelsea on October 20)," he said.

“It’s going to take a few weeks, I assume. I think it is his hamstring.”

Alisson's injury is the third such hamstring problem he has suffered in 2024. The keeper spent over a month out injured earlier this year and ended up missing February's Carabao Cup win over Chelsea.

A similar hamstring issue occurred earlier this season with Alisson missing the 3-0 win over Bournemouth. It's a reoccurring problem which will worry Slot.

Liverpool face a defining period of games after the international break. Chelsea, RB Leipzig, Arsenal, Brighton (twice), Bayer Leverkusen and Aston Villa is a daunting fixture list for any team and should Alisson face a similar time out to earlier in the year, he could end up missing several, if not all, of those games as he works his way back to full fitness.

The Reds' title credentials will be severely tested now and without their key goalkeeper for some time, Slot's task at Anfield has just become a whole lot harder.
