Alan Shearer has made his prediction for Everton’s match-up with Newcastle United at the weekend.

Everton are at Goodison Park for the second week running and welcome Newcastle United to Merseyside on Saturday evening.

It’s been an incredibly worrying start to the Premier League season for Sean Dyche but his side finally got their first win on the board last week.

A Dwight McNeil double inspired the Toffees to a hard-fought comeback victory over Crystal Palace but now they will have to build on that momentum.

That’s easier said than done given it’s top-four hopefuls Newcastle next and Alan Shearer is expecting to see his side come away with the victory.

Alan Shearer predicts a Newcastle win over Everton

When giving his weekly fixture predictions to the Metro, Shearer explained he feels Newcastle will be buoyed by their draw with Manchester City last week to pick up the three points.

He wrote: “Everton got a huge result last time out at home.

“They showed great character after going 1-0 down and McNeil got a couple of goals, but I thought Newcastle produced their best performance of the season against Man City.

“They looked much more like they have done over the last couple of years, and I’d be looking for them to carry that on here. I’m going to go for an away win.”

Newcastle and Everton both have injury issues

Everton looked to be going into the match with a fuller squad, with only their four long-term absentees unavailable, but that has changed on Friday.

Dyche confirmed Armando Broja, Seamus Coleman, Nathan Patterson and Youssef Chermiti all remain sidelined in his press conference on Thursday but two more injuries have come to light since.

The backline has taken a heavy hit as it’s been revealed Jarrard Branthwaite, who only made his long-awaited return last weekend, has suffered a thigh strain in training.

With a massive clash against Ipswich Town coming after the international break, it’s unlikely he’ll be risked.

Additionally, Vitaly Mykolenko has picked up a calf injury which looks set to keep him out of action for a couple of weeks, too.

That means Dyche will likely be forced to deploy James Garner at right-back on Saturday with Michael Keane coming in at centre-back.

For Newcastle, Eddie Howe has confirmed Alexander Isak will still be unavailable while Callum Wilson, Sven Botman, Matt Targett, Jamaal Lascelles and Lewis Miley are all still out.

Kieran Trippier, Nick Pope and Fabian Schar were doubts but should be fit to play.
