A hearing will take place next week regarding Nottingham Forest head coach Nuno Espirito Santo’s Football Association charge.
The Portuguese and attacker Morgan Gibbs-White are both alleged to have “acted in an improper manner” and/or “used abusive and/or insulting words” towards the officials against Brighton and Hove Albion last month. The pair had been shown red cards by referee Rob Jones in the 2-2 draw at the Amex Stadium, with Gibbs-White dismissed for a second bookable offence and Nuno given his marching orders for his response to the incident.
The Reds had until Wednesday (October 2) to submit their observations over what happened and Nuno will now get the chance to state his case. The club are likely to point to a few mitigating factors such as the Forest boss apologising to the officials immediately after the game and the fact the majority of the Premier League’s Key Match Incidents panel (a 3-2 split) felt Jones was wrong to send off Gibbs-White.
The club have found themselves in hot water with the FA again this week. Owner Evangelos Marinakis was charged with misconduct and is accused of “improper” behaviour in the City Ground tunnel area after the final whistle of Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Fulham.
“I’m not aware of the situation,” Nuno said of Marinakis’ charge when speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s trip to Chelsea (2pm kick-off). “I’m aware of the charge. I’m also going through that process and the hearing will be next week. I don’t know many details about it.”
Nuno was already facing a suspended one-match touchline ban for comments made after last season’s defeat to Everton. On that occasion he was also fined and warned about his future conduct, with the touchline ban suspended until May 31, 2026.

After the weekend’s loss to Fulham, Forest were furious with what they considered to be the inconsistency of decision-making by the officials. Raul Jimenez scored the only goal of the game after Murillo was deemed to have fouled Andreas Pereira, but challenges on Taiwo Awoniyi and Anthony Elanga went unpunished.
The Reds have been on the end of a fair few controversial decisions since promotion back to the Premier League. However, Nuno insists his squad are simply focused on matters on the pitch as they prepare to take on the Blues.
“We try to ignore it. For now it is not an issue for us; let's try to keep it this way,” he said. “Always expecting the referees and VAR to make the better decisions for the game - this is our message and this is how we approach it for now.”
